Retired (2006) Deputy Sheriff with the Allegheny County Sheriffs Office, Pittsburgh, Pa. (since 1989).

Law Enforcement Experience:  

Detective for over 10 years in the Allegheny County Sheriffs Fugitive Squadand the Greater Pgh Fugitive Task Force, with an additional 8 years on the Sheriffs Patrol Division and Court Divisions, along with experience in the Sheriffs Transportation and specialty squads.  Mr. Rose attended numerous seminars and training courses specializing in fugitive apprehension, street survival, drug interdiction, courtroom security and youth gang awareness.  Mr. Rose has worked with the Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Drug Enforcement Agency and other Federal agencies throughout his tenure as a deputy sheriff. Mr. Rose was also the DefensiveTactics instructor for the Allegheny County Sheriffs Office.  

Prior to his law enforcement experience Mr. Rose had 8 years experience in the security/protection field.

Contributions to the Martial Arts & the community:  

• Professor Rose was the Co-Founder, President and Chief Martial Arts Instructor for the Rose Athletic Club Inc.

The Rose A.C. was a “not for profit” organization which provided training in American Boxing, Kickboxing, and the Martial Arts, focusing on the youth in the Pittsburgh communities, particularly delinquent and “at risk” youth.  

• Mr.Rose was also the Founder of the ToraHana-Ryu Academy Of Self-Defense.  Mr. Rose taught a pragmatic, eclectic system of self-defense incorporating the many years of experience in the Martial Arts, with emphasis on character building and social responsibility in the inner-city area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA.   

• Mr. Rose has taught at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh,

• YMCA of Pittsburgh (Northside Branch)

• Pittsburgh Hill House Association,

• Rankin Christian Center,

and many other non-profit organizations.  Mr. Rose also taught Olympic-style amateur Boxing to youth featuring the Charley Burley style of boxing.

• In late 2004 Mr. Rose traveled to Europe, to teach young men (ages 14-22) at the Pioneer Centre Youth Camp in Kidderminster, England, United Kingdom, his martial art TFS.  

 

Through his martial art Professor Rose lives the philanthropy that he teaches.

Professor Rose is also a Reiki Master/Teacher and a Qigong Teacher who seeks to perpetuate a healing and health mentality with his students and those he speaks to. Healing is a very important part of the Torahanaryu philosophy.

Prof. Rose has been studying Martial Arts for over 40 years and has been teaching consistently for over 30+ years.  

 

Professor Edward C. Rose III is the founder, innovator,and Grandmaster instructor of his expression of martial arts he calls Torahana-Ryu (Tiger Flower School) .  

The motto of ToraHana-Ryu is “Tiger spirit, flower heart. Having the beauty and tranquility of a flower with the prowess and ferocity of a tiger”.

Professor Rose is also an Ordained Minister with an accredited Doctor of Metaphysics degree and other religious degrees. Professor Rose is an active minister with the Universal Light Church Inc. and a lifetime member of the World Metaphysical Association (WMA), who most importantly is a devout spiritual teacher and healer who seeks to facilitate physical, emotional, and spiritual health in all.
